How do I activate my Citi credit card for Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode?
During your first online purchase you will be asked to confirm your identity by answering several safety questions (confidentiality of this information is of course assured through the site’s security) and then be requested to create a personal password. You must of course use your password wisely and keep it secret.
Once your card has been activated, all participating internet shops can recognise you as a card holder. You will be asked to give your password during future online purchases. This confirms that you are the authorised card holder and your payment can be made. The merchant will not get to see your password.

Why do I need to provide personal information during the activation?
The information you provide is compared to the information we have of you. With this safety measure, we can be sure that you are the real card holder. For extra certainty we ask you to give the expiry date of your Citi credit card and the CVV2-code (Visa) or CVC2-code (MasterCard) at the back of your card. With this, we verify whether you are actually in possession of the card that is activated.

How does the internet shop know whether my password is correct?
The internet shop checks your password electronically at Visa / MasterCard and Citibank during each purchase. This is done after you have stated the number of your Citi credit card on the purchase form. If you then insert the correct password, Citibank will automatically send an authorisation to the internet shop and your payment will be completed. This process is fully protected and invisible to the internet shop.
